Burning candles and wax tarts is a great way to add scent to your home. Candles are fairly low maintenance, but once you purchase a candle you are stuck with having the same scent until the candle has been completely burned. Using wax tarts rather than candles is a great way to be able to burn any number of scents, depending on your mood. Tarts are small pieces of wax that are placed in a tart burner. A small tea light candle is placed underneath, melting the wax and distributing the scent. Once the tea light has burned out, the wax in the tart burner hardens and must be removed before burning a different tart. Removing the wax can be done very easily.
Step 1
Make sure there is no tea light in the body of the tart burner. You can lose them in the freezer otherwise.

Step 2
Place the tart burner that is filled with wax in the freezer. Make sure that it is placed in a position so that it does not fall out when opening the freezer door.
Step 3
Leave the tart burner filled with wax in the freezer for at least 15 minutes. This will give the wax an adequate amount of time to harden.
Step 4
Remove the tart burner from the freezer. With the end of a metal spoon, apply pressure to 1 side of the wax in the tart burner. The wax should pop out easily. Most times a spoon is unnecessary, and you can simply use your fingers to slide the cold wax from the tart burner.
Tip
You can also remove wax that has dripped down the side of the tart burner once the burner is chilled.
Get your tart burner clean after removing the wax simply by placing it in the dishwasher.
Warning
Make sure your tart burner warms up a little bit before lighting a tea light in it. Putting a flame directly under the porcelain that has been in the freezer may result in cracking the tart burner.
