Things You'll Need
24 inches of 1 1/2 inch birch shavings
Craft knife or scissors
1/2 inch wood bead
Floral wire
Floral tape
Hot glue gun
Hot glue sticks
The rose is a very delicate and beautiful flower. Replicas of roses are made from plastic, paper, clay, metal and wood. Make a wood rose using birch wood shavings. Use a wood plane and shave wood strips from the edge or flat surface of the board. A minimum of 24 inches of 1 1/2 inch wide wood shavings are necessary to make a wood rose. This is due to the fact that birch splits when planed. The birch strip may also split when cutting the rose petal shapes.
Step 1
Cut 20 rose petals 1 inch wide and 1 inch tall from 24 inches of birch shavings. Use either a craft knife or scissors. Round the bottom and top corners. Cut the bottom slightly wider than the top. Set aside.

Step 2
Plug in the hot glue gun.
Step 3
Wrap the end of a piece of floral wire around the entire circumference of a 1/2 inch wood bead. Twist the end of the floral wire around the wire directly under the bead for 1/2 inch.
Step 4
Hot glue the floral wire to the bead. Add extra hot glue under the bead to encase the floral wire and help hold the bead in place.
Step 5
Cup the bottom of the first rose petal. Place a dot of hot glue in the center bottom of the petal. Hold the floral wire with the wooden bead on the top. Wrap the bottom of the petal tightly around the wooden bead.
Step 6
Cup the bottom of the second rose petal. Place a dot of hot glue in the center bottom of the petal. Position the second petal at a 45 degree angle from the first. Wrap the bottom of the petal tightly around the wooden bead. Repeat the process for two more petals.
Step 7
Start a new row. Cup the bottom of the first petal. Place a dot of hot glue in the center bottom of the petal. Position the petal so it is centered over the edge of a petal from the first row. Wrap the bottom of the petal tightly around the base of the rose.
Step 8
Cup the bottom of the second petal. Place a dot of hot glue in the center bottom of the petal. Position the petal so it is centered over the next edge of a petal from the first row. Wrap the bottom of the petal tightly around the base of the rose. Repeat for the next two petals. Continue this process for the remaining wooden rose petals.
Step 9
Wrap floral tape around the floral wire. Begin under the wooden rose. Wrap the floral tape tightly so it does not move.
Step 10
Clip any glue strings with scissors.
