Fall: A time of crisp mornings, toasty backyard fires, and, best of all, jumping into piles of multicolored leaves. Bring that colorful fall feeling into your home by creating these vibrant felt coasters. Not only are they beautiful, they'll also protect your coffee table from those steaming cups of hot cocoa you'll be sipping now that the weather is cooler. Made from two layers of thick felt and a little stitching on the sewing machine, they will dress up your end tables and help you embrace autumn in style.

How to Make Fall Leaf Felt Coasters
Things You'll Need
Thick craft felt in various autumnal colors
Thick paper and pencil to create a pattern piece
Disappearing ink pen
Sharp scissors
Contrasting thread
Sewing machine
1. Cut out the leaf shapes
Draw a leaf outline onto paper to create a template. You can use any size and shape you like — the shape shown here is essentially a circle that is extended into a teardrop shape.
Cut out the template and place it over two layers of felt. Trace around the template with a disappearing ink pen.
Use a sharp pair of scissors to cut out the leaf design through both layers of felt.
Repeat the process to cut out as many coasters — and in any colors — you like.
2. Sew the outside edge
Sew the two pieces of felt together by sewing a straight stitch all around the outside edge. Be sure to backstitch the ends.
3. Stitch up the middle
Straight stitch up the center of the leaf. Back stitch both ends.
4. Stitch a vein pattern
Create a vein pattern by sewing straight stitches in angled line from the outer edge stitching to the center stitching. Turn when you get to the center line and stitch at an angle to the other edge. Repeat this four times on the leaf.
Repeat with the remaining coasters, and they're ready for the table!
