In the 2004 model year, Ford celebrated the Mustang's 40th anniversary by adding a "40th Anniversary" badge on every 2004 Mustang. The 2004 Mustang also marked the end of the eighth generation, as a new body style appeared the following year.
Engines
The 40th anniversary Mustang had four different engine options: one V-6 and three V-8s. The V-6 -- a 3.8-liter -- produced 190 hp at 5,250 rpm and 220 foot-pounds of torque at 2,750 rpm. The Mustang's V-8 -- a 4.6-liter -- produced 260 hp at 5,250 rpm to 390 hp at 6,000 rpm, and 302 foot-pounds of torque at 4,000 rpm to 390 foot-pounds of torque at 3,500 rpm.
Driveline
Just like all other Mustangs, the 40th anniversary Mustang came only as a rear-wheel-drive vehicle. Three different transmission options were available in 2004: four-speed automatic, five-speed manual and six-speed manual.
Exterior and Weight
The 40th anniversary Mustang measured 183.2 to 183.5 inches long, 73.1 inches wide, 52.9 to 53.2 inches high. It had a 101.3-inch wheelbase and a curb weight -- weight without passengers or cargo -- ranging from 3,290 to 3,780 lbs.
