Things You'll Need
Spray bottle
1 cup white vinegar
Essential oil
Cloth
Made of dried flowers, herbs and spices, potpourri fills your home with a pleasant scent. Unfortunately, not all potpourris smell as good as they claim and some can quickly turn your once fresh home into a stinky mess. Commercial odor removers contain a high amount of chemicals and many merely mask the funky potpourri odor instead of getting rid of it. Fortunately, you can create your own air freshener and odor eliminator using natural and inexpensive items that will remove the potpourri aroma instead of covering it up.
Step 1
Pour 1 cup water in a clean spray bottle. Add 1 cup white vinegar and screw the lid back on the spray bottle. Mix the water and vinegar together by swirling the bottle around gently in a circular motion.

Step 2
Unscrew the lid on the spray bottle. Add 15 drops of essential oil to the mixture. Choose an essential oil that you find pleasant, such as lemon, mint, cinnamon or lavender.
Step 3
Secure the lid back on the spray bottle and mix the contents together by gently swirling the bottle.
Step 4
Mist the air, upholstery and carpets with the homemade air freshener as often as needed.
Step 5
Remove unpleasant potpourri smells trapped in walls by wiping them with a cloth dampened in pure white vinegar. Let the vinegar dry on the walls.
Tip
Test the mixture on a small, inconspicuous area of the carpet or upholstery. If damage or discoloration occurs, discontinue use.
