Kohler's K-1663 steam unit provides steam to your bath or shower, creating a spa-like experience. The 5-kilowatt steam generator is compatible with Kohler's basic steam generator systems, and features a control panel with display digital clock and setting display. This display is helpful if problems occur, displaying error codes that help direct you toward the problem.
Error Codes
Step 1
Turn off the power and press the buttons on the keypad if the error codes 1, 2, 3, 4, 7 or 8 is displayed. Receiving one of these error codes indicates a button may be stuck. Contact a technician if the error codes remain after unsticking the buttons. The keypad may be damaged and may require replacement or repair.

Step 2
Check the green status light on your steam generator. If this is on and error code 5 is displayed, the tank water level might be too low. Ensure that the water supply valve is on and supplying water to your steam generator. Remove the water inlet screen located at the water connection and clean this, if necessary.
Step 3
Contact a technician for repair if the green status light is off and your display shows error code 5. The generator components may not be working properly and this requires professional repair or replacement.
Step 4
Reset the power to the generator, and ventilate the room by opening a windows and doors if the error code displayed is "6." This code means the temperature in the room has reached a higher level than the generator's maximum limit.
Leak from Steam Head
Video of the Day
Step 1
Check the water supply lines to ensure they're connected properly and securely. A small amount of water dripping from the steam head during operation and soon after or before is normal. It also is normal for water to drip during the steamer's power clean cycle.
Step 2
Turn off the water supply to the generator and drain the tank. The internal parts of the generator may not be functioning properly.
Step 3
Turn the water supply on again slowly and refill the generator. If water still leaks from the steam head contact a technician for repair.
No Steam
Step 1
Check the display panel for error messages. If there is no error message, your steam generator may have reached its maximum temperature set-point. The maximum allowed temperature for the Kohler K-1663 steam unit is 125 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 2
Press the temperature button to adjust the temperature if the maximum allowable temperature has not been reached. The display will flash the previous setting. Press the up arrow button to increase the temperature and wait five seconds for the screen to stop flashing. The display will show the ambient temperature until it is ready to produce steam.
Step 3
Wait five minutes for the generator to produce steam. If there still is no steam, clean the steam head and line, which may be blocked, with a damp sponge or cloth and a non-abrasive cleaner.
Step 4
Reset the session timer by pressing the timer button on the display panel. If the session time limit is reached, the generator will not produce steam.
Step 5
Press the up or down arrow to adjust the timer setting, and wait five seconds for the screen to stop flashing and the steamer will begin its countdown. The generator may require up to five minutes for steam to begin.
