How to Make a Shrek Costume. Shrek has become a superstar. He's beloved by millions of kids and adults alike, so why not dress up like that loveable, green ogre for Halloween or any occasion that calls for a costume? You'll be surprised at just how easy it is to make a Shrek costume for yourself or your kids.
Step 1
Buy a tan t-shirt or buy a white t-shirt and dye it brown. It should look a bit dingy.

Put on a wide, brown belt. It should be long enough to sit low, around your hips.
Step 3
Take a piece of brown felt and wrap it around yourself. Make a mark where your shoulders are and cut two armholes to make a vest. Cut the vest on the bottom so it ends at your chest. Poke holes down the edges of the vest and use a thick brown shoelace or a bit of twine to tie the vest together.
Step 4
Wear brown pants and shred the bottom of the legs with a pair of scissors, so that they look ragged.
Step 5
Make Shrek ears using green construction paper. Cut out two ears from the construction paper and set them aside. Then cut a long strip from one side of the construction paper, about an inch thick. This strip will be your headband.
Step 6
Glue the ears to the headband. Wrap the headband around your head. Make a mark where one side of the headband meets the other. Remove the headband from your head, using your forefinger and thumb to hold the ends together, and staple the ends where they meet.
Tip
Shrek has a bit of a tummy that sticks out. Stuff a small pillow under your shirt to make yourself look a little chubbier. Place the pillow above the belt. If you don't have a brown belt, you can use a bit of thick twine or brown yarn. Make sure you tie it tightly enough that it holds up the pillow you're using for a belly.
