Things You'll Need
1 cup berries (fresh or frozen)
1 cup cornstarch
Water
Bar of soap (without dye or fragrance)
Grater
Berries can produce colors like blue, purple, red and pink. With just a few ingredients you probably already have around the house, you can make your own homemade paint, using berries for a colorant. Homemade paint is a safe, toxin-free alternative to purchasing paints from the store. These paints are suitable for children to use as finger paints as long as you use homemade or all-natural bar soap without dyes or fragrance.
Step 1
Make the colorant. Thaw frozen berries in a colander over a bowl or simmer fresh berries in 1 cup of water for 30 minutes.

Step 2
Strain the berries. Keep the liquid and reserve the berries for another use.
Step 3
Grate the bar of soap to achieve 1/3 cup of soap flakes.
Step 4
Put the soap flakes in a bowl and pour 1/2 cup of boiling water over them. Stir the mixture until the flakes dissolve.
Step 5
Combine cornstarch with 1/2 cup of water to make a paste. Stir the paste into the soap mixture.
Step 6
Add berry juice until desired color is achieved.
Tip
Try different juices or tea to create different colors.
Warning
Berry juice may stain clothing and countertops. Protect clothing and surfaces and have tools on hand to clean up any messes.
