The blacksmith in medieval times was the working man behind all of the glamorous knights and their armor and weapons. Many people love to recreate medieval costumes, but most go for knight or princess costumes. With a blacksmith costume, you will be sure to stand out more in the crowd. Whether for a Halloween party or a medieval or Renaissance fair, the blacksmith is possibly the easiest costume to recreate. Yet, the costume will look amazing and authentic, even though very little time or effort went into it.
Step 1
Go to a thrift store and buy a slightly oversized, long-sleeved, white T-shirt and a simple pair of brown or black pants. If you can find one, buy a simple brown men's apron. If not, it's very easy to make your own.

Step 2
Cut out a piece of fabric in the basic shape of an apron. The bib part should be as tall and as wide as the front of your torso. The bottom part should expand to be wide enough to wrap around the sides. It should be about knee length.
Step 3
Hem the apron all the way around. Cut out 3 pieces of fabric, each about 2 feet long and 1 inch wide. Hem these fabric pieces all around. Sew one to each side of the wide part of the apron, making strings to tie the apron in the back. Sew the third piece in a loop around the top of the bib of the apron, making a loop to go around the neck.
Step 4
Use black eye shadow or stage make-up to make the clothes seem sooty. Smudge it onto each piece of clothing all around. Smudge some on your face and arms also.
Step 5
For accessories, carry around a black hammer and wear simple, black shoes.
