Decorative File Folder

File folders are a great way to organize. You can use them for organizing coupons, craft ideas, scrapbooking paper, bills, your child's homework and many other types of paperwork. Usually, file folders are a bland but useful part of our everyday lives. They do not have to be boring, though. By decorating your file folders, you can add some fun to your organization system. Even the most ordinary of household items can be made decorative. It just takes a little creativity and some planning.

Step 1

Choose your wrapping paper. You may want to use a simple print for a simplistic look, such as polka dots or straight lines. In the picture above, a more ornate design gives the folder a busier look. Choose patterns or prints to match the folder's intended use (i.e., Christmas wrapping paper for Christmas crafts). Roll out your wrapping paper onto a flat surface.

Step 2

Apply the glue evenly to the outside of your file folder, using an old paintbrush. Carefully place it on the wrapping paper, making sure to lay it down as evenly as possible.

Step 3

Cut a wide square all the way around your file folder, and flip it over. Smooth any bubbles on the surface with a ruler. Allow your folder to dry this way for at least 10 minutes.

Step 4

Check to be sure that the glue is dry, and flip the folder over so that you can see the manilla side. Use your utility knife to cut off the excess paper. Be sure to follow the edge of the folder, and cut firmly to avoid flaws. Your file folder is ready for use.
