Quilts are labors of love, often telling the story of an ancestor or family member. Displaying a homemade quilt on a wall is one way to share your work with everyone. One of the simplest ways to hang a quilted wall hanging is to attach tabs to the back. You can insert a piece of wooden doweling through the tabs for the actual hanging. The tabs are similar to those found on cafe-style curtains.
Step 1
Measure the width of the wall hanging's top edge. Wall hangings a foot or smaller in width will require two tabs; larger wall hangings will require three or more tabs spaced about 4 inches apart. Use the width measurement to determine the number of tabs.

Step 2
Iron the fabric for your tabs. Lay out your rotary mat and position your fabric on the mat. Cut a strip 2 1/2 inches wide, then cut 4 1/2-inch sections from the fabric strip. Make as many as you need for your number of tabs.
Step 3
Fold one fabric section in half lengthwise, with the wrong sides together. Sew a 1/4-inch seam along the raw edge. Repeat for the rest of the tabs.
Step 4
Iron the tab strips so that the seam falls down the center of the strip on the back. With the front sides facing each other, fold the tab strips in half, matching the top and bottom raw edges. Sew a 1/4-inch seam across the raw edges. Turn right side out and iron.
Step 5
Space the tabs evenly across the back of your wall hanging and pin in place. Thread a hand needle and sew the tabs in place. Take care not to sew through to the front of the wall hanging. Remove the pins.
Tip
Use the same fabric for your tabs as was used in the binding. Hang quilts out of direct sunlight and try to avoid strong indoor lighting. The light will speed the fading of the dyes in the fabric. Wash your wall hangings occasionally to keep dust from building up.
Warning
Take care when using the rotary equipment to avoid injury and do not leave the cutter where children can reach it.
