Things You'll Need
Towel
Iron
Area rugs add a touch of design to any room, and often are purchased and stored in a rolled-up form. When you unroll the area rug, you are typically left with creases that prevent the rug from laying flat. Not only is this unattractive, but it could also be a safety hazard if someone trips over a raised crease. To remove the creases and keep the rug laying flat, you simply need to use two items that are most likely already in your home.
Step 1
Place a folded towel over the crease in the rug. You want to have approximately 1/2 inch of towel height to protect the rug from the iron's heat.

Step 2
Turn an iron on medium heat, and turn on the steam setting. If your iron does not have a steam setting, lightly sprinkle water onto the towel.
Step 3
Rub the iron over the towel. The steam will penetrate into the rug, removing the creases. Hold the iron over each section for five seconds, then move onto a new area of the rug. Repeat until all creases are removed.
