Adhering foil to cardboard has many applications in costumes, crafts and do-it-yourself projects. By gluing foil to cardboard, you can create a toy shield, sword or helmet for a Halloween costume, or you can make your own solar cooker. The process of adhering foil to cardboard can be frustrating, due to the slick surface of the foil, but once you know how to mix your glue, it is an easy procedure.
Step 1
Cut your foil to the desired size and shape you need for your project. Cut the foil so that it is slightly larger than the cardboard it is going to cover.

Step 2
Smooth out the foil until it is free of wrinkles.
Step 3
Mix a solution of one part glue to one part water in a bowl until you have enough diluted glue for your foil.
Step 4
Using a brush, apply a thin coat of glue solution to the dull side of your foil. If the foil is shiny on both sides, it doesn't matter which side you apply the glue.
Step 5
Press the glued side of your foil onto the cardboard. Fold the excess foil over the edges of the cardboard.
Step 6
Clamp or tape your foil to the cardboard to hold it in place until the glue dries.
