A balloon drop is a creative addition to any birthday celebration, and it is easy to create in your own home using inexpensive materials. You can add confetti or streamers to the drop as well, making the experience even more festive. For a special touch, use balloons in the birthday person's favorite colors.
Step 1
Lay the paper tablecloths next to each other with the long sides overlapping by three inches.

Step 2
String the needle with yarn and stitch the paper tablecloths together on the overlapping section. Make one stitch every three inches. When you reach the end, leave a two foot section of the yarn hanging down so you can pull on it later.
Step 3
Secure each of the four edges of the new drop net to the ceiling with a thumbtack. Hang the net so the middle section sags about two feet from the ceiling. Tear four three-inch sections of masking tape and cover each thumbtack with a piece to reinforce it.
Step 4
Fill the net with inflated balloons, confetti, streamers, small pieces of candy or any other light object you want to add to the balloon drop.
Step 5
Tape the two foot rip cord to the wall with a piece of masking tape. When you are ready to drop the balloons, pull the two-foot section of yarn firmly. It will rip the two tablecloths and allow the balloons to drop.
