Wrapping a Box

Step 1

Decide how you want the wrapped gift to look. Options include fun and festive, creative, simple and elegant. Choose wrapping paper, tissue paper, ribbon and a bow that complement one another and will produce the look you are seeking.

Step 2

Find a box slightly larger than the jar. The jar should fit in the box with enough room to add some cushioning, but not move or slide around. The box should also be sturdy enough to support the weight of the jar.

Step 3

Lay several pieces of crumpled tissue paper in the bottom of the box. Wrap a few pieces of tissue paper around the jar to protect it inside the box. Carefully place the jar in the box and cover with tissue paper. Use additional crumpled tissue paper to fill any empty spots in the box, such as the corners. The jar should not be able to move around in the box if it is moved or shaken.

Step 4

Roll out the wrapping paper, printed side facing down. Cut off a section of paper large enough to cover the box. Place the box upside down in the center of the paper. Pull two of the opposite ends of the paper together at the top center of the box. Overlap one side over the other by 1 or 2 inches. Cut off any excess paper.

Step 5

Pull the paper tight and smooth out any wrinkles or air bubbles. Fasten with tape.

Step 6

Turn one "open" side of the box toward you. Fold the top of the wrapping paper down against the side of the box. Then fold the right and left sides toward the center. Bring the bottom piece up, smoothing out any wrinkles. Pull all sides of the paper together tightly and fasten with tape. Turn the box around and repeat this technique on the other side.

Step 7

Decorate with ribbon, a bow and a gift card. For a unique approach, use yarn or fabric ribbon instead of curling ribbon.

Wrapping With Tulle or Cellophane

Step 1

Cut a piece of tulle or cellophane large enough to wrap around the jar. Lay the tulle or cellophane on a flat surface and place the jar, right side up, in the center.

Step 2

Pull the tulle or cellophane toward the top of the jar, bringing all sides up together. Tuck in any open spots and pull as tightly as possible.

Step 3

Tie a small piece of ribbon above the lid of the jar, gathering all of the tulle or cellophane inside the ribbon before knotting it.

Step 4

Use tape to fasten any pieces of tulle or cellophane that were not caught in the ribbon.

Step 5

Tie decorative ribbon around the top, covering the ribbon used to close the wrapping material. Add a bow and a gift card.

Tip

You can also place a jar in a gift bag with tissue paper, rather than wrapping it.
