When your child wants to dress up as the itsy bitsy spider for Halloween, a costume party or a school event, make the costume yourself. Many store-bought costumes can be extremely expensive. Although some costumes are difficult to make at home, an itsy bitsy spider costume is quite simple. You don't even need to know how to sew to transform your child into this character.
Step 1
Cut the legs off two pairs of black tights. Fill the legs of the tights with pillow stuffing until you can hold them horizontally and they do not bend. Close the ends of the tights with small rubber bands to hold the stuffing in place.

Step 2
Lay a black sweatshirt down on a flat surface. Pin two legs to either side of the sweatshirt with safety pins, hiding the pin on the inside of the sweatshirt so it does not show on the outside. Place one leg a few inches up from the bottom of the shirt and the next leg a few inches higher than that.
Step 3
Pin the end of the higher leg to the elbow of the sweatshirt sleeve on each side. That way, the legs will look more like a spider's than if they were simply hanging down. The bottom legs don't need to be pinned.
Step 4
Dress your child in the sweatshirt and a pair of black sweatpants to mimic having eight legs. Add a pair of black gloves, a black baseball hat and black shoes so the child's whole body is black and resembles a spider's.
