Things You'll Need

  • Drain pan

  • Socket wrench

  • Allen wrench set

  • 2 quarts of Honda ATV four-stroke motor oil

Keeping the oil changed in the ATV will ensure it runs at optimum levels.

Changing the oil in a Honda Recon 250 is quick and simple to complete. It is important to change the oil every five to six outings with the ATV. This will prevent viscosity build-up in the engine and ensure the oil is consistently lubricating all the engine's moving parts. Always start the task by accessing the engine compartment and unscrewing the oil fill cap.

Step 1

Ensure the ATV is parked on a flat and level surface. Place a drain pan under the engine.

Step 2

Unscrew the drain bolt at the bottom of the pan with a socket wrench. Ensure all the oil drains out before tightening the bolt back to the drain pan.

Step 3

Locate a plug on the side of the drain pan. It will be close to the bottom. Unscrew the plug with an Allen wrench.

Step 4

Unscrew the oil fill cap on the top of the engine by hand. Pour in Honda ATV four-stroke motor oil in to the engine. Stop pouring when oil starts coming out of the small hole on the drain pan. Immediately screw the plug back in to the engine with the Allen wrench.

Tip

The Honda Recon 250 has a screen for an oil filter that does not need to be changed.

Warning

Contact a local recycling company for disposal of the waste oil.
