If you have a ceramic teapot that is more functional than decorative, spruce it up with a little paint. Painting glazed ceramic requires some special paints and techniques to ensure that the paint forms a strong bond with the smooth and slick ceramic surface, but the process is not difficult. Even a novice painter can create a pretty painted teapot that should hold up to regular use and washing.
Step 1
Clean the teapot in hot, soapy water to remove any dirt or grease from the surface. Rinse and dry the teapot when it is clean.

Step 2
Paint the outside of the teapot with water-based ceramic paints and an artist's paintbrush. Paint the teapot one solid color or use several shades of paint to create a design.
Step 3
Wait at least 24 hours to give the paint plenty of time to dry.
Step 4
Preheat your oven to 200 degrees F.
Step 5
Place your painted teapot on a baking sheet and slide it into the preheated oven.
Step 6
Reduce the oven temperature to 150 degrees F and bake the teapot for approximately 50 minutes.
Step 7
Remove the teapot from the oven using potholders and turn off the oven. Do not use the teapot until it is cool.
Tip
Hand wash your painted ceramic teapot to avoid damaging the paint.
