Replacing a door knob is a project any homeowner can accomplish with a couple of basic tools. Reasons for replacing the door knob can vary from it being broken to changing it to match a certain decor to it not meeting safety standards. Whatever the reason, the Kwikset door knob is a quick-change door knob.

Step 1
Loosen and remove the two screws on the exterior housing and remove the old door knob.

Loosen the dead latch from the side of the door, or the part that holds the door latch and is screwed into the door itself. Remove the screws and pull it out.
Step 3
Place the new dead latch into the side of the door in the existing hole. Do not tighten the screws just yet.
Step 4
Put the two new door knob sections into the door; they will fit together in only one way. They also have to go through the center of the dead-latch.
Step 5
Place the screws into the door knob sections. Tighten the screws in alternating fashion to make the door knob sink up evenly.
Step 6
Screw in the plate on the side of the door to secure the dead latch.
