When the "Human Slinky Costume" first showed up for sale online, it swept headlines and made top ten lists of the strangest - and most expensive - costumes ever made. That human slinky costume was elaborate, with fluid slinky-like coverings for the head, torso, arms, and legs that actually moved as a slinky did. But at a starting price of $100,000, not many party-goers can afford that unique of a costume. Making your own human slinky costume is much more affordable. Yours may not be as impressive, but you'll still look the part.
Step 1
Make a single cut through each hula hoop with a saw so that each one is an opened ring. Your slinky costume will look like a slinky folding over itself, with two rows of loops extending down in front of you and behind you.

Step 2
Attach the hoops together, open end to open end, to connect the hula hoops into one continuous form. You may want to attach with masking tape first so you can adjust the overall size and length of the slinky. Center the form on your shoulders so that the hoops extend in front of you and behind you to try it on and check for length. When satisfied with the number of hoops, glue in place. Let dry for 24 hours.
Step 3
Spray paint the hoops to ensure a thick, even coat. Make sure you paint every outer surface of the round hoops. Paint them silver for a retro-style slinky, or in rainbow colors for a modern one. Let dry for 24 hours.
Step 4
Attach wire armatures to shape the curve of the hula-hoop slinky as it rests on your shoulders. Cut lengths of wire with the pliers and curve the wires to fit over your shoulders. Tape the wire in place and try the slinky form on again. Space the hoops so they rest comfortably and naturally over your shoulders. When satisfied, remove the strips of tape one by one and glue the wire in place where the tape was. Let dry for 24 hours.
Step 5
Pad the wire for comfort. Attach a layer of soft black foam, or use shoulder pads painted black.
Step 6
Wear the slinky with the black shirt and black pants to minimize the appearance of your own body sandwiched between the loops of the slinky costume.
