When your Bernina speed regulator foot pedal starts running fast or slow, it could just need cleaning. On the other hand, the problem may be the capacitor or the PCB (printed circuit board). Clean your Bernina Speed Regulator Foot Pedal
Step 1
Unplug your Bernina sewing machine.

Use a flathead screwdriver to pry the base off the foot pedal at the pivot points.

Take note of the internal mechanism. Make sure you know where springs and other components go and how they are installed before going further.

Use a lint brush or small toothbrush to gently clean away any dust and dirt that may have gathered inside the housing of your Bernina Speed Regulator Foot Pedal.

Return the spring and other parts inside the foot pedal to their original positions.
Step 6
Hold the pivot end of the Bernina Speed Regulator Foot Pedal with one hand and snap the base back in place.
Step 7
Plug in your Bernina sewing machine and test the foot pedal to see if the problem has been resolved.

Look closely at the wires to see if they are broken or disconnected.

Remove the PCB with care.

Heat the soldering iron and scrape off any dirt or residue that may be left over from a previous job.

Peel back approximately one-quarter inch of insulation from each wire and carefully dab a little soldering compound on the exposed ends of each wire.

Use the soldering iron to connect the wires to the PCB.
Step 7
Allow the soldered wires to dry completely, until they are cool and hard to the touch.
Step 8
Replace the springs and other internal components.
Step 9
Put the PCB back in its place cautiously, making sure the new solders are not damaged in the process.
Step 10
Snap the Bernina Speed Regulated Foot Pedal back together as described in Step 1 above.
Worn capacitor
Step 1
Follow the instructions in step 1 above to remove the base of the Bernina Speed Regulator Foot Pedal.
Step 2
Remove the capacitor and inspect it. The capacitor looks a little like a battery.
Step 3
Remove the capacitor if it is worn.
Step 4
Purchase a new capacitor that meets the exact specifications of the old one. It is best to take the old one to a reputable dealer, who will be able to match your specific needs.
Step 5
Replace the worn capacitor and follow the instructions in Step 1 above to re-assemble your Bernina Speed Regulated Foot Pedal.
