The Master Lock 5400D is a portable key safe that holds up to five keys. Master Lock has designed the safe with a padlock style shackle for securing it to a doorknob or similar object. The safe's flip storage compartment door locks and unlocks via a four-dial combination lock protected from rain, snow and dirt by a sliding shutter door. Using the 5400D requires that you learn the correct method to use the combination dials to set and reset the combination, unlock the door and open the shackle.
Step 1
Slide down the shutter door on your Master Lock 5400D portable key safe and roll the dials to "0000" – the factory default combination.

Step 2
Push the release button for the key storage compartment door. Flip down the door to open the compartment.
Step 3
Move the combination reset lever, located near the hinge at the right corner of the door, left and down.
Step 4
Turn the dials to a new combination number and then slide the reset lever back.
Step 5
Flip up and close the door. Roll the dials with your thumb so that they no longer reflect your new combination.
Step 6
Roll the dials to the new combination again. Push the release button to access the compartment.
Step 7
Press the shackle release lever located inside the compartment at the top. Pull up on the shackle to separate it from the safe lock body.
Step 8
Hang the shackle over a doorknob or around an object that it can't slide from with the shackle closed. Push the shackle into the safe lock body.
Step 9
Place keys inside the compartment. Flip up and close the door. Roll the dials so that they no longer show your combination and then slide up the shutter door.
Tip
If you need to reset the combination at any time, use the same instructions for setting it that you used to create your combination except use your combination instead of the “0000” factory default.
