Formica is a brand of laminate used for countertops, flooring and tile. The material is known for durability, eye appeal and low-maintenance care. Regular cleaning keeps Formica shiny and clean but the right supplies must be used to prevent the surface from getting cloudy and dirty. By following steps and using supplies recommended by Formica Group, you can keep your countertops and flooring clean, avoiding cloudy films that make the surface look dull.
Step 1
Mix 4 drops dishwashing detergent with 1 qt. warm water in a bucket. Dip a clean sponge in the mild soap mixture and squeeze out excess liquid. Scrub the Formica surface to remove surface dirt and stains.

Step 2
Dampen a clean cloth with water and wipe off the Formica to remove the soapy solution.
Step 3
Sprinkle baking soda on any remaining stains and cloudiness. Wet a nylon dish scrubber and scrub the cloudy areas in a circular motion. Baking soda is a mild abrasive, safe and effective for Formica surfaces.
Step 4
Wipe the baking soda residue off with a damp cloth. Dry the Formica with a clean, dry cloth.
Step 5
Shine the Formica surface with a cloth dampened with club soda. Pour just enough club soda onto the cloth to make the fabric damp. Buff the club soda into the Formica until it's dry.
Tip
Use sour milk to add shine to a cloudy and dull Formica floor.
Clean Formica with cleaners that are safe for the surface. Improper cleaning materials and supplies can cause etching, scratches and other surface damage that can contribute toward a cloudy appearance.
Buff the Formica surface with a non-oil furniture spray to give it shine.
