It is important to keep baby teeth clean while they are still in the baby's mouth, but it is also important to clean the teeth before placing them out for the Tooth Fairy. You want to remove any blood, plaque or buildup from the tooth without breaking it apart. Luckily, the cleaning routine for teeth that have fallen out is quite similar to the cleaning routine for baby teeth while they are still in the mouth. Keep in mind this is a routine that you can do with your child, building excitement in anticipation for the Tooth Fairy's visit.
Step 1
Fill a small dish with about 1/2 c. warm water. Using a dish works better than cleaning the tooth over the sink, as if you drop the tooth it could potentially fall down the drain and get lost.

Step 2
Dip the tooth into the bowl of water to rinse off any blood or loose residue.
Step 3
Squirt a drop of toothpaste onto a damp toothbrush.
Step 4
Scrub the toothbrush gently over the baby tooth and continue until all buildup is removed from the tooth.
Step 5
Dip the tooth back into the bowl of water until all toothpaste is removed, and lay the baby tooth on a clean, dry surface to air dry.
