Glitter reflects small flecks of light to give clothing, craft projects and accessories a shimmery pop. That same glitter, however, can also create a mess as it sheds from even the slightest bit of friction, causing it to stick to other clothing items, your skin or surfaces around your home. Keep your glittery clothes, crafts and accessories radiant and tidy by taking simple measures utilizing a product you may already have in your bathroom.
Step 1
Shake the item lightly over a trash can to remove any glitter that is already loose.

Step 2
Place two layers of newspaper over your work surface. Lay the glittery item on the newspaper. Place a piece of cardboard, cut to size, inside the item if it is clothing.
Step 3
Spray a coat of maximum hold hairspray over the glittery area of the item by holding the can 6 inches from the item and making smooth sweeping motions. Let the hairspray dry for 10 minutes.
Step 4
Turn glittery clothing items inside out and wash them separately to prevent unnecessary shedding.
Step 5
Keep your children's glittery artwork in plastic zipper bags for storage to prevent glitter shedding while protecting other stored items from unwanted glitter.
