How to Make a Yard Christmas Tree From PVC

Use PVC pipes to create a Christmas tree.

Christmas is a holiday when many people get creative and festively decorate their homes. While many types of yard decorations can be bought from a store, you can save some money and make a one-of-a-kind display using PVC pipes. Building a PVC Christmas tree takes little more than a few of these plastic pipes, a tree stand and twinkle lights, and can create an eye-catching and festive decoration that will light up your yard.

Step 1

Drill a row of holes into each of the four-foot-long PVC pipes. There should be about four or five holes running the length of each pipe, with at least five inches of space from the top and bottom of the pipe. Attach screws into each of these holes with about a half-inch of each screw elevated from the outer surface of the pipe. These will later hold the Christmas tree lights.

Step 2

Spray paint the PVC pipes green before assembling them into a Christmas tree. Lay out the materials on newspaper in a well-ventilated area. Spray paint one side; allow the pieces to dry before flipping them and painting the other sides. Let the PVC pipes sit until the paint is dry.

Step 3

Slip four PVC pipe elbows into the outer sockets of the five-way cross. These elbow joints should be at a 45-degree angle, which will set the angle of the outer body of the Christmas tree.

Step 4

Place a five-foot-long straight PVC pipe in the center of the five-way cross socket. Attach the bottom of this pipe into a sturdy Christmas tree stand. Screw it into place. Wiggle the pipe to ensure it's strong enough to stand up to the elements in your yard.

Step 5

Place the four-foot PVC pipes into the elbow sockets surrounding the cross socket. These pipes should extend downward at a 45-degree angle without touching the ground.

Step 6

String waterproof Christmas tree lights in a spiral around the PVC pipe tree. Start at the bottom and wind the light strand around all of the pipes. Secure the wire in the open space between the top of the screws and the PVC pipe. Plug in the lights to illuminate your PVC pipe Christmas tree.
