Hot buttered rum is a warm, sweet drink that is particularly popular during the winter, but the flavor of the seasonal cocktail also adds a rich, decadent taste to several baked goods like hot butter rum cake. The flavors can also be made into an icing and drizzled on cookies. It's easy to make butter rum flavoring yourself, using a few ingredients you may already have in the pantry. The flavoring is great to have on hand during the winter any time you want to prepare a cocktail or dessert.

Step 2

Add 1/2 tbsp.of honey and 1/2 tbsp.of rum extract to the mixture of butter and sugar.

Step 3

Place 1/2 tbsp. each of cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg into the bowl with the other ingredients. Use an electric mixture to combine the ingredients for about three minutes, or until completely smooth.

Step 4

Store the flavoring in the refrigerator until you're ready to use it. It will keep for up to six months, so you can mix a tablespoon of the flavoring with an ounce or two of rum and boiling hot water to create the hot butter rum cocktail. Or, include the buttery brown mixture in your cake batters or cookie doughs to give them extra sweetness and butter flavor.
