All good pirates have eye patches.

Arr, 'tis good to be a pirate! It's also good to dress up as one, whether for a children's birthday party or a college fancy dress do. And no pirate costume is complete without an eye patch. However, restricting your visibility can lead to some disastrous mishaps, especially when you have a hook instead of a hand. A see-through eye patch gives you the best of both worlds, with a great costume that causes no impediment to swashbuckling.

Step 1

Draw out two identical eye patch shapes on the card. Cut them out. Cut a hole 1/4" across in the center of each.

Step 2

Cut a small patch of aluminum repair mesh just larger than the eye patch hole. Paint it black and allow to dry. Stick it over the hole in one side of the card. Stick the other piece of card exactly over the top of the first. Allow to dry.

Step 3

Snip the rubber band so it is no longer a loop. Paint it black. Punch a small hole in the top corners of the eye patch. Poke an end of the rubber band through each. Tie a knot. This will do for a basic eye patch.

Step 4

Paint a skull and crossbones design on the outwards facing part of the eye patch to give it an even more piratical look.
