Dyeing sunglasses allows you to add some pizazz to your eyewear. It isn't recommended for prescription lenses or expensive frames; however, it works well for ordinary plastic sunglasses. The lenses normally pop out of the frames, so you may dye the lenses and frames together or separately. In addition to adding colored dyes to existing sunglasses, you may also purchase non-prescription glasses with clear lenses and convert them to sunglasses by using a UV tint prior to dyeing.
Step 1
Mix the dye. Purchase dye made specifically for eyeglasses or use clothing dye. In each case, mix it with distilled water rather than tap water to avoid discoloration due to mineral deposits. Place the mixture in a pot and heat it to between 190 and 200 F.

Step 2
Wipe the glasses clean to remove all finger prints and any other buildup. Place them in the heated dye and leave them submerged for no longer than 30 minutes.
Step 3
Remove the sunglasses from the dye using tongs.
Step 4
Place the sunglasses on a towel and allow them to dry.
Tip
If you wish to dye the individual parts separately, remove the lenses before placing the sunglasses in the dye mixture. Reassemble the sunglasses after the parts have dried.
