It can be overwhelming to select a sink design out of the numerous styles and materials available. Composite sinks are composed of two or more materials and vary in their durability and appearance. Many composite sinks contain acrylic, but these tend to be less resistant to wear than other sinks. Regular acrylic sinks are composed of just acrylic and might lack durability, but they tend to be cheaper options.

Acrylic sinks offer many benefits, such as ease of installation, low price and a shiny appearance. The drawback is they might not last as long as composites, such as granite, and tougher materials, such as stainless steel. Acrylic is a kind of plastic but appears similar to a porcelain enamel sink. When using these sinks in the kitchen, use care to avoid nicks and scuffs from heavy-duty pans.

Composites

If you want versatility and durability without extreme cost, a composite sink is a good bet. Scratches are not as obvious on them, particularly for granite or quartz composites, because they are not finished with a different material. Another advantage is that they include high-end material, such as granite, without a high price. They tend to have an attractive appearance and offer versatility because the multiple materials within them.

Acrylic is often combined with polyester in composite sinks, creating a soft surface that is vulnerable to nicks and cuts. Such surfaces are less useful for kitchen sinks where heavy pans are washed. But polyester/acrylic composites often create a shiny appearance that brightens up a kitchen or bathroom, and they tend to be more affordable. A variety of colors are available for these composites.

Durable Composites

If a long lifespan is what you're looking for in a sink, go for a durable composite sink composed of quartz or granite. Quartz composites often are combined with resin and offer durability and an ability to withstand denting and scuffing. They are available in many colors but tend to lack the gloss seen in other materials. Quartz composites insulate heat well and can even keep dishwater warmer for longer. Granite composites are more expensive but are extremely durable because of the high density of rocks at the surface. They tend to be available in matte finishes, so they often lack a glossy look.
