Electric grills are available in two types--ones with a lid that have a grill surface and ones with only one cooking surface. The cooking time for ones with a lid differs from the ones without.

The grilling time for a 1-inch boneless sirloin steak on a covered grill is between five and seven minutes; on a uncovered grill it is between 12 and 15 minutes (medium rare). Make sure you turn your steak over half way through the cooking process if you are using a uncovered electric grill. The internal temperature of the steak should be 145 degrees Fahrenheit. Use a meat thermometer to check the temperature. For medium, the grilling time is between seven and nine minutes on a covered grill and between 15 and 18 minutes on a uncovered grill. The internal temperature should be 160 degrees. For well done, the grilling time is between nine and 11 minutes on a covered grill and between 18 and 21 minutes on a uncovered grill. Electric Grilling Tips

Make sure you trim the fat from your steaks. Season your steaks like you would if you were cooking them on a outdoor grill or other cooking device. Steaks will produce some grease, so you don't have to worry about oiling the electric grill. If your steaks are frozen, take them out the day before you plan on cooking them and thaw them in the refrigerator.
