What to Wear to a Bling Theme Party

Attending theme-based parties can help guide what to wear, which seems like it would make a wardrobe decision even easier. That's not always the case, though. If attending a bling-themed party, improvisation skills will come into play if, unlike well-heeled celebrities, thousands of dollars in jewelry is out of reach.

Ladies should wear a top or dress that sparkles. The point of a bling party is to show off pricey and flashy clothes and jewelry, even if it's fake. Glittery, metallic, shiny or sparkly clothing is one way to get noticed.

Guys should stick with something luxurious looking, such as a satin button-down shirt, depending on the look. Any buttoned dress shirt would likely work as well. Dress in all black or white to make a statement. For a more casual, hip-hop outfit, wear a crisp white T-shirt under a favorite basketball jersey or wear baggie jeans with a matching name-brand T-shirt from a favorite hip-hop designer.

Go through closets and jewelry boxes. Ask family and friends, if necessary, for items you can borrow. Discount retailers or secondhand shops are other alternatives. Being determined often yields positive results.

Load up on shiny jewelry and accessories. Wear the biggest diamond earrings, rings, diamond-encrusted watches, bracelets, anklets and necklaces. Use inexpensive rhinestones that look like diamonds. Wear gold or silver jewelry. Even the fake stuff will work if it isn't blatantly fake like the "jewelry" from novelty machines.

Guys should wear the largest, shiniest belt buckle. Look for one with rhinestones. Tuck in the shirt, at least in the front, so the belt buckle can be seen. Wear a nice pair of shiny cuff links for a dressier look.

Finish the outfit with fancy-looking accessories. Ladies should carry a big, shiny purse or wrap themselves in a fake fur if the outfit calls for one.

Guys should take advantage of alligator skin or shiny black or white shoes, as long as they match the outfit.

Girls should wear a pair of heels that sparkle and shine. Black, white, clear or any color that incorporates rhinestone embellishments is a prime option.
