After a long winter, there's nothing more exciting than the arrival of marshmallow Peeps in stores. The return of the classic treat means that spring and Easter are around the corner—and eventually, warm weather! That said, if you love seasonal projects as much as we do, it also means it's time for Peeps crafts.

But why stop at a Peeps candy wreath or Peeps s'mores? The pastel hues of the popular marshmallow treats reminded us of the costumes and vibe of one of our favorite TV shows: ‌Bridgerton‌! So, we decided to create a Peeps gingerbread house inspired by the Bridgerton family's wisteria-covered house in Mayfair. Our creation even includes Peeps bunnies designed to look like characters from the show (Penelo-‌Peep‌ Featherington, anyone?). The result is a dreamy, colorful DIY Peeps centerpiece that's fit for royalty. Seriously, we think Queen Charlotte would love this stately gingerbread mansion!

Tip

Feel free to use your go-to gingerbread cookie dough recipe if you have one.

1. Prepare gingerbread dough

For this recipe, you'll make dough in two separate batches. This way, it will be easier to prepare.

In a large mixing bowl, combine 4 cups all-purpose flour, 1 Tbsp. cinnamon, 1 tsp. ginger and 1/2 tsp nutmeg. Stir until combined.

In a pot or pan over medium heat, combine 1 cup dark corn syrup, 3/4 cup dark brown sugar and 3/4 cup unsalted butter. Heat until melted, stirring occasionally.

Tip

If the dough is too sticky, add a bit of flour and knead until combined.

Add the butter-sugar mixture to the dry ingredients. Mix until dough forms. It should be tacky but not excessively sticky.

Tightly wrap the dough in plastic wrap. Let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes.

To make the remainder of the dough, repeat the above steps with the remaining ingredients.

Tip

The first batch will yield enough dough for the front, top and side panels. The second batch will create the back panel. Re-roll the leftovers to make cookie gates and spare panels.

2. Make gingerbread mansion panels

Preheat the oven to 350°F.

For the building pieces, trace the bottom, front and side of an empty cereal box onto cardboard. Cut out shapes to use as building templates. Place a large sheet of parchment paper on your work surface. Roll the first batch of dough into a sheet about 3/8 in. thick.

Lay the cardboard templates on top and then cut them out using a fondant trimmer or pizza cutter. Remove the excess and re-roll it into a ball. Pick up the parchment paper and set aside the cut-out shapes.

Tip

When moving dough, handle the parchment paper only. Avoid picking up the actual dough, which will break when handled directly.

Lay another sheet of parchment paper on your work surface. Roll out the remaining dough and create the back panel. (You can also create spare side panels and choose the best one after baking.) Again, re-roll the scraps and set aside the cut-out shapes.

To make cookie gates, draw two vertical lines about 4 in. apart on scrap cardboard. Connect the top points with a curved line and the bottom points with a straight line. Cut out the cardboard shape.

Roll out the leftover gingerbread dough. Place the gate template on top and cut it out. Flip the template so that the second piece mirrors the first.

3. Bake gingerbread dough

To bake the panels, pick up both sides of the parchment paper and place them on a large baking sheet. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until the edges are golden brown, rotating once halfway. Repeat until all panels are baked.

Tip

You might need more or less time depending on your oven. We recommend checking the dough after 15 minutes. Additionally, if the gingerbread forms bubbles, gently prick it with a toothpick as soon as you remove it from the oven.

Part 2: Assemble Mansion

Things You'll Need

  • Gingerbread cookie panels

  • White royal icing

  • Black royal icing

  • Light purple royal icing

  • Pink cookie or royal icing

  • Green cookie or royal icing

  • White fondant

  • Empty cereal box (taped shut)

  • Purple Peeps

Tip

Royal icing dries hard, while cookie icing does not. If you want to use cookie icing, we recommend only using it as the topmost layer like we did with the vines and roses. Avoid layering other ingredients on top of cookie icing, as it dries soft and won't hold up.

1. Construct gingerbread structure

Stick the front, top and side gingerbread panels to an empty cereal box using royal icing. You might have to press and hold each piece until it dries.

Fill in the corners and edges with more royal icing. Once dry, flip it over and add the back panel.

2. Make façade with fondant and icing

To create the mansion's façade, place a square of white fondant on the lower middle area of the building. Use royal icing to adhere it. Above this square, add three narrow rectangles of white fondant followed by window and door details with black royal icing.

For the remaining windows, use white or black royal icing (your choice!). You can also add molding along the top and center using white royal icing.

Here's where things get colorful! Flatten a purple bunny Peep with the palm of your hand and then cut it into small pieces.

Tip

Every now and then, wipe the scissors with a damp towel to remove sticky marshmallow residue and then wipe it dry with a clean cloth. This will make it easier to cut the Peeps.

Using light purple or white royal icing, stick a row of cut-up Peep pieces along the center molding. Add vines to the upper windows and corners using green icing.

For the cookie gates, use black royal icing to make bars. Let it dry. Next, add vines with green icing and roses with circles of pink icing.

Part 3: Create Bridgerton Peeps Characters

Things You'll Need

Tip

When turning Easter Peeps into ‌Bridgerton‌ characters, be sure to have a few extra Peeps on hand. This way, you’ll have enough materials to experiment.

1. Make Queen Charlotte Peep

On a pink bunny marshmallow, pipe a simple necklace shape with white royal icing. Add white pearl sprinkles with pliers. Next, pipe royal icing between the ears and place a clump of white or light blue cotton candy.

2. Make Eloise Bridgerton Peep

To create a sweet treat inspired by Eloise Bridgerton, draw bangs with black royal icing on a purple bunny Peep. Roll out a rectangle of light blue fondant and wrap it around the Peep using a dot of icing to stick the front corners together.

3. Make Penelope Featherington Peep

For Penelope, draw a curved line around the neck using white royal icing. Add round silver sprinkles to create a necklace. Pipe royal icing between the ears and place a clump of pink cotton candy on top. Carefully insert a yellow feather into the cotton candy.

4. Make Colin Bridgerton Peep

Use a blue Peep bunny to create an Easter treat inspired by Colin Bridgerton. Add a white icing bow using icing and pipe buttons and lines for his "jacket."

Tip

You can find white bow sprinkles on Etsy. They might also be available in the craft store baking section. Another option is to use white fondant and bow mold, which you can find on Amazon.

Part 4: Arrange Peeps Mansion Elements

It's time to display your Peeps house! Start by placing chick Peeps in front of the mansion. Next, add gates by propping them up against small items, like a glass bottle of vanilla extract or mini spice jars. You decide! Finally, scatter chick Peeps around the house or elsewhere and then place the ‌Bridgerton‌ bunny Peeps in front to complete your charming regency-inspired Easter decoration.

If you ask us, even Lady Whistledown herself would be impressed by this charming ‌Bridgerton‌ Peeps mansion. The only question now is whether you can bring yourself to take a bite of your pastel masterpiece!
