This brownie recipe is an absolute staple in my book. It's simple, chocolatey, gooey, chewy, fudgy, and pretty much everything I could ever want in a brownie. Plus, if you want to make them for the spooky season, it's really, really easy!
Once the brownies are baked and have mostly cooled, you make the spiderweb design with melted marshmallows. You can go for a classic spiderweb pattern or make it more freeform, as I've done here.

Quick Recipe Overview
SERVINGS: 9 brownies
PREP TIME: 10 minutes
BAKE TIME: 40–50 minutes
COOLING TIME: 45 minutes
DECORATING TIME: 10 minutes
TOTAL TIME: 1 hour and 45 minutes–1 hour 55 minutes
Things You'll Need
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1 Tbsp. vanilla
2 eggs
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 tsp. salt
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup mini marshmallows
1. Mix the melted butter, sugar, and cocoa powder
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray and line an 8 by 8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and cocoa powder until combined.
2. Whisk in the eggs and vanilla
Whisk in one egg and the vanilla until uniform. Whisk in the second egg until smooth.
3. Fold in the dry ingredients
Add the flour, salt, and chocolate chips. Fold until no dry spots remain.
4. Bake the brownies
Transfer the brownie batter to the lined baking pan. Use an offset spatula to spread it evenly.
Bake at 350°F for 40 to 50 minutes. To test if it is done, stick a toothpick in the center. If it comes out mostly clean with some crumbs, it is finished.
Remove the pan from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for 45 minutes.
5. Melt the marshmallows
Add the marshmallows to a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 15 to 20 seconds, just until they puff up.
6. Add spiderwebs
Dip two forks into the marshmallows. Use the forks to add "spiderwebs" on top of the brownies. Reheat the marshmallows as needed.
7. Slice and serve
Slice the brownies into 9 pieces and enjoy!
Tip
Store the brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
