Brownies made with a box mix are a classic foolproof dessert. And to be perfectly honest, sometimes I prefer them to homemade brownies because boxed are so easy and convenient to make.
Box mix brownies are also easy to customize and level up. One of my favorites is to combine the box mix with pumpkin puree instead of oil and water. It adds a delicious pumpkin flavor for a perfect autumn treat, and it's just as easy as the standard bake.

Things You'll Need
15.25 oz. box brownie mix
1 cup pumpkin puree
1 egg, room temperature
Pumpkin sprinkles
1/2 tsp. pumpkin spice, 1/2 cup chocolate chips, chopped nuts, M&M's, etc. (optional)
1. Mix the pumpkin puree and egg
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray an 8 by 8-inch baking pan, then line with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the pumpkin puree and egg until combined.
2. Stir in the box brownie mix and sprinkles
Add the box brownie mix and 1 to 2 tablespoons of sprinkles. Mix until no dry spots remain.
Tip
If desired, add pumpkin spice, chocolate chips, nuts, M&M's, or other add-ins to the mix.
3. Bake the brownies
Evenly spread the brownie batter into the baking pan. Top with extra sprinkles and bake for 25 to 40 minutes according to the box mix directions.
Tip
To test whether the brownies are done, insert a toothpick in the middle. It should come out mostly clean with a few crumbs.
4. Cool and cut the brownies
Let the brownies cool in the pan for about 30 minutes. Then, lift them out of the baking dish by the paper and cut them into 16 equal squares.
Tip
Store the brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
