Things You'll Need
Measuring tape
Covering fabric of choice
Upholstery pins
Even though there are many full recliner covers available for purchase in home stores and online, you may need to make your own if you wish only to cover a partial area, such as the seat or the back of the recliner. Making your own recliner cover allows you to cover only the preferred area while leaving the rest of the recliner uncovered. Creating the cover yourself also allows you to save money and use the exact type of fabric that you like.
Step 1
Measure the area that you'd like to cover on the recliner with measuring tape. If you wish only to cover the seat, measure the entire surface area of the cushion. For areas such as the back or sides, measure the width and length of the area.

Step 2
Cut a piece of the preferred cover fabric using the measurements you made. Add 3 inches to each side to leave room for tucking. You can hem the ends of the fabric if you wish, but keep in mind that the edges of the fabric are hidden from view and do not come into contact with anything that'll unravel it.
Step 3
Drape the fabric over the recliner in the preferred area. Use your hands to smooth the fabric over the recliner.
Step 4
Wrap the edge of the cover fabric around the ends of the recliner to hide the edge from view. Press the sharp tip of an upholstery pin over the edge of the cover fabric on the recliner. Push down hard while simultaneously turning the pin clockwise to secure the fabric to the recliner.
Step 5
Secure an upholstery pin every 3 to 4 inches around the perimeter of the fabric to hold the cover tightly in place.
