While a relaxing day at the beach may result in a lot of warm memories, the toll on your bathing suit may be less than welcome. Sand has a way of sticking to swimwear and not letting go. Luckily, it's fairly easy to remove as long as you care for your suit as soon as possible. Because the longer sand sits, the more difficult it is to clear out, so diligence it key.

Step 1
Go outside and shake the suit to remove any surface dirt and loose sand. Flip it inside out and gently brush with your hand to remove sand that may be stuck to the lining.

Step 2
Fill a bucket with cold water and 2 tablespoons of gentle liquid detergent. Submerge the bathing suit in the bucket, and allow it to sit for 15 minutes.
Step 3
Remove the bathing suit and rinse it under cool water until the water runs clear of detergent. Roll it in a dry towel and gently press down to absorb any excess water.
Step 4
Set the bathing suit on a dry towel in a cool place, and allow it to air dry. Keep it out of the sun to preserve the suit's color.
Step 5
Shake out the suit again once it's dry. Turn the suit inside out and repeat. Gently wipe any remaining, stuck-on sand with a thick dry towel until it is removed.
Tip
Never wring out a wet swimsuit since you could damage the fabric.
