D rings represent one picture hanging option. The placement of the D ring determines whether the picture will hang with a wire or hooks. D rings that are attached vertically in the top corners of a frame will not use a wire. D rings attached midway on the side of the frame require a wire to hang the picture. Purchase picture hanging hardware at home improvement centers and discount stores.

Step 2
Select the space on the wall for the picture to hang. Choose the viewing height for the picture by measuring 63 to 66 inches from the floor and hang within that area.
Step 3
Measure the distance between the D rings on the frame. Nail or screw the hooks to the wall using that exact distance.
Step 4
Attach the D rings to the wall hooks to hang the picture.
Frame with Wire
Step 1
Purchase the appropriate wire for the weight of the frame. Measure and cut wire one-and-a-half times the distance between the D rings.
Step 2
Loop one end of the wire through a D ring. Bend 1 inch of wire backward and twist around the long wire to secure.
Step 3
Attach the loose end of wire to the second D ring and secure in the same way as the first D ring.
Step 4
Attach a wall hook 63 to 66 inches from the floor and hang the picture on the wall hook.
