Spring tension curtain rods are one of the easiest ways to hang curtains. They do not require any tools or hardware. They do not leave any holes or marks in your walls and they can be easily taken down. Spring tension rods come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors, so you are bound to find the right one for your needs. If you have never installed a tension rod, you may be a bit confused about how to get started.
Step 1
Measure the width of the window where the tension rod will hung. Select the appropriate length of spring tension rod for this measurement. If your measurement is close to or the same length as the largest measurement for the rod, select the next larger size for your window.

Step 2
Hold one end of the rod while you turn the other end clockwise. This will unscrew the rod and extend the length. Extend the rod at least 1 inch longer than the width of the window.
Step 3
Thread the curtain through the rod and place one end against the window frame. Gently press in on the other end to collapse the rod until it fits inside the window frame. Use the level to ensure that the rod is straight.
