Blow up the Beach Ball

Inflate a large beach ball. This will be used as the foundation for the papier mache head of your King Boo costume.

Combine 1/2 cup flour and a pinch of salt with water in a large mixing bowl to make a gooey, but not runny, paste mixture.

Apply the Papier Mache to the Ball

Use strips of newspaper and papier mache paste to apply this combination in layers over the large beach ball. Dip your newspaper strips into the paste and then press them to the ball, smoothing them carefully with your fingertips.

Apply at least seven to nine layers of newspaper strips. Allow ample drying time before removing the beach ball. Then, remove the beach ball by deflating it using a sharp object such as a knife to poke a hole and allowing the air to escape. Cut a small hole into the dried newspaper and pull the deflated ball out through the hole.

Paint the Papier Mache Ball

Paint the entire papier mache ball with white craft paint and a large paintbrush. Several coats of paint may be needed to get a consistent color that adequately covers the newspaper.

Cut Holes in the Ball

Use a craft knife to cut holes in the papier mache ball. Cut a hole on each side of the ball for arms, an additional hole in the bottom for your body and head to fit through and one in the front for your face (so that you can see and breathe.)

You will be wearing the costume over your entire head, shoulders and upper torso, so the bottom hole needs to be large enough for you to put the costume on and take it off easily.

Give the Ball King Boo's Face

Draw King Boo's face on with a black felt-tipped permanent marker. Alternatively, you can use black craft paint and paint the face on instead.

Cut and Glue on a Tongue

Cut out a tongue from pink felt and attach it to the costume using tacky glue. Use clamps to keep the tongue in place while it dries.

Crown the King
